The Bomboré mine is located 85 km from the capital of Ouagadougou and is easily accessible via paved roads and national highways. Operated by Orezone Gold, commercial production was declared at Bomboré in December 2022 after being constructed on time and under budget.
Conventional truck and shovel mining methods are used at Bomboré for the oxide material, while the hard rock material will require drill and blast prior to being loaded onto trucks. The hard rock ore will be treated in the planned new processing plant located adjacent to the existing oxide plant.
The existing oxide plant has a nameplate capacity of 6.0 Mtpa and has the capacity to produce over 100 Koz of gold per year. The stage 1 hard rock expansion which will be commissioned by early 2026, is able to process 2.5 Mtpa of hard rock material and increase Orezone’s annual gold production to over 170 Koz per annum. Orezone has also announced a Phase 2 hard rock expansion that will increase the hard rock plant capacity to 5.5 Mtpa, with a target completion date of Q4-2026. Once complete, Bomboré will be produce 220 – 250 Koz per annum and will be one of the largest mines in West Africa.
